A maniacal clown terrorizes three women on Halloween night.Terrifier is a gory movie with a sadistic killer clown that revels in mutilating his victims in creative ways and willing to use any kind of improvised weapon as well as one not often seen in slasher movies. The movie makes effective use of practical effects and the gory murders are graphic enough to make you know this movie means business. David Howard Thornton stars as Art the Clown and his portrayal is devilishly effective as a villain who is mute and must use facial gestures to express himself in his ghoulish clown makeup. The story is the usual cat and mouse variety but this film is more about watching Art capture, torture and mutilate his victims. Terrifier is an effective and bloody slasher film that follows the usual formula of 1980's horror films and has crowned Art the Clown as one of the new faces of horror.

Gee golly whoppers!! This movie had me shakin like a bacon in my boots!! My baby almost came out while watching this out of so much shock... It was so scary my husband's socks nocked right off however wouldn't show this to my kids because I wouldn't want them getting any ideas, anyways stay cool and groovy!!Terrifier is a 2017 horror film directed and written by Damien Leone. Based on Leone’s short film of the same name which was featured in his anthology All Hallows’ Eve, it focuses on a maniacal clown named Art, who terrorizes three young women on Halloween night and everyone else who stands in his way.

Two Years. For two years I have waited to get my hands on this film and when the day finally came I didn’t hesitate for a single moment. I’d say I waited patiently, but that would be a bold face lie, because no patience was involved in the waiting for this film. One of the downsides to independent films is their lack of a world-wide release, which means fans such as myself from other parts of the world almost become the last person to show up to the party when the party is over, and everyone is passed out on the floor. Now having had the glorious pleasure of watching this film I can finally report that Art remains my number one favourite killer clown of all time. 

Ain’t too much sadder than the tears of a clown…Well well well, if it isn’t ‘today’s standards’.Fresh off the panic surrounding Ghostwatch with it’s disturbing scenes of banging on walls and brief glimpses of men with skull like heads, we have Terrifier with borderline comical levels of gore that barely registers as a blip on the radar. Frankly, I couldn’t have asked for a better movie to contrast the two ends of the scale.It does though mark something of a return to the heydays of slasher villains, if not for the critical or financial success but for the iconic look of the character. Obviously the big icons of slasher horror are the likes of Michael Myers, Jason Vorhees, Freddy Krueger but it feels like we haven’t had a notable one in the modern era. Everything just seems to be the occasional re-emergence of an old favourite like the Child’s Play reboot, the new Halloween trilogy, more Scream sequels…I guess the closest you’d get is Jigsaw but even he’s not a slasher in the same way and he’s getting on for 20 years old at this point.

Now we backtrack to Halloween night when two girls, Tara and Dawn, are leaving a bar drunk, so they stop for pizza. Art the Clown begins to follow them in his passively creepy and mime-like way with his garbage bag arsenal slung over his shoulder. He gets kicked out of the pizzeria, slashes the tires on the girls car, and kills the workers at the pizza joint. Tara calls her sister, Victoria, for a ride, but in the meantime Tara has to pee and goes into the building they are stuck parked in front of to find a bathroom. The building is vacant because it's being bombed for rats...except it's not vacant, there's a loony woman living in the basement that talks to a baby doll and Art makes a killing room within it's walls.

Eventually Dawn, Tara, Victoria, Exterminator 1 & 2, and baby doll lady are locked in this building and victims of Art the Clown. There is plenty of gore, most of it is shown close up and bloody. There's one kill that's pretty brutal, and I've seen it written about as "misogynistic", but I think Art does it because he's a deranged psycho. You'll know it when you see it. Maybe that's why his name is Art, his kills are done ART-fully. (Bahahaha pun intended.) The ending has a tiny plot twist. I won't tell you who the lone survivor is or what happens to Art.
