While neither particularly profound nor earth-shatteringly scary, “Suitable Flesh” is better than passable grisly horror fun in a very specific tradition. A tradition hinted at by the presence of Barbara Crampton in the cast and a title card situating the goings-on taking place at a medical facility called “Miskatonic.”Releasing to limited theaters and streaming platforms on Oct. 27, it’s a movie best watched after a few libations, which might make more of the laughs play as deliberate. The deeper the story goes, the more unhinged and carnage-laden life becomes, not just for Elizabeth but for everyone in her path.  Suitable Flesh is the story of psychiatrist Dr. Elizabeth Derby (Graham) who meets up with a young man who appears to be experiencing serious psychological issues. Eager to help and somehow drawn in by this mysterious, mesmerizing, seemingly schizophrenic stranger, she gets sucked into something more abnormal than she’s ever seen in her career.

Psychiatrist Elizabeth Derby becomes obsessed with helping a young patient suffering extreme personality disorder. But it leads her into dark occult danger as she tries to escape a horrific fate.Suitable Flesh is a horror mystery movie that centers on psychiatrist Elizabeth Derby who is framed for the murder of a patient she was attracted to. Now stuck in a psych ward, Elizabeth aims to clear her name while confiding in her doctor, leading to increasingly chaotic events in this erotic carnage-filled thriller.Hoping to clear her name, Elizabeth confides in her doctor and recounts what happened, giving way to a bizarre and disturbing tale of sexual madness, supernatural horror, and homicidal rage.A once-esteemed psychiatrist helplessly watches her life spiral into a nightmarish maelstrom of supernatural hysteria and gruesome deaths, all linked to a seemingly unstoppable ancient curse.

“Suitable Flesh” bears a parting dedication to Stuart Gordon, who passed away in 2020 and is certainly missed, especially after watching this campy concoction, which revisits his beloved H.P. Lovecraft territory minus the late screen genre specialist’s knack for welding grotesque horror content to a black comedy tone. Just days ago, Elizabeth Derby (Heather Graham) was a successful psychiatrist with a loving husband and the world at her fingertips. Now, she finds herself locked up inside a psych ward after the murder of a young male patient to whom she had an inexplicable, almost otherworldly attraction. After murdering her young patient, a once-esteemed psychiatrist helplessly watches her life spiral into a nightmarish maelstrom of supernatural hysteria and gruesome deaths, all linked to a seemingly unstoppable ancient curse.
