The Parekh family is back with a brand-new adventure!Tasked by the TIA - Thodi Intelligent Agency, the Parekhs are off on a secret mission to Paanthukistan - a poor, joyless country ruled by a despotic King - who is the exact replica of Praful Parekh!Their mission is to kidnap the King and rescue an imprisoned Indian nuclear scientist before he creates a weapon of mass destruction- a powerful bio-robot .The sequel to Khichdi is set against a Diwali backdrop, and deals with themes of harmony, humanism, forgiveness, and the enduring strength of familial bonds.The crazy Parekh family returns with their shenanigans. This time, the TIA’s (Thodi Intelligent Agency) agent, Kaushal (Anant Vidhaat) tasks them with a secret operation to head to a fictional and joyless country, Paanthukistan, and abduct its emperor who bears an uncanny resemblance to Praful Parekh (Rajeev Mehta). 

What follows is something you’d expect from director Aatish Kapadia’s popular franchise — scatterbrained characters making a mess of the situation. It’s not different this time, too.The audience is treated to all the elements that have made the television and movie series popular — hilarious one-liners, Praful and his wife Hansa’s (Supriya Pathak) insane interpretations of English words (independent is the British Queen asking for the Koh-i-noor to be encrusted in her crown and not ‘in the pendant!’), and Himanshu’s (JD Majethia) foolishness. The campy humour will appeal more to those familiar with the characters and who have some context of their madness.As a standalone film, it is rib-tickling thanks to its characters and their goofiness. Along with Praful, Hansa and Himanshu, the other relatively more sensible family members Babuji (Anang Desai), and Jayshree (Vandana Pathak) offer relentless laughter. 

However, once the group reaches Paanthukistan, the narrative, situations, and characters turn over the top; beginning with the citizens’ unimaginative names, such as Gulkandadevi, Zarda, Tambaku, and so on. Many sequences, people and their characteristics seem unnecessary and stuffed to heighten the comedy. Things turn shakier post-interval and the comedy seems to wean, too. Although the story is outrageous to begin with, the first half can be viewed as a good ol’ slapstick but the later part turns bizarre.The film is led by Supriya Pathak Kapoor, Rajeev Mehta, Anang Desai, Vandana Pathak, Kirti Kulhari, and actor-producer Jamnadas Majethia (JD).The makers also unveiled the film’s teaser, in which director-choreographer Farah Khan is seen in a special role. There’s even a typical Hansa joke, with Himanshu explaining NRI as MRI.Set against the backdrop of Diwali, the movie “seamlessly weaves themes of unity, humanity, forgiveness, and the enduring power of family bonds,” read a statement.

The filmmakers have tried to scale up the movie, but the story and screenplay do not support this effort. That being said, the performances and the nonsensical capers will make you laugh frequently. Fans of the franchise may especially enjoy this one.Helmed by Aatish Kapadia, the film stars Supriya Pathak, Rajeev Mehta, Anang Desai, Vandana Pathak, Kirti Kulhari, and actor-producer Jamnadas Majethia (JD) in the lead roles.Khichdi first came into existence as a stage play. It revolves around the eccentricities of a Gujarati joint family residing in Mumbai. It later evolved as a sitcom, web series and movie. The sequel, an adventure comedy, has released 13 years after the first film.The success of the original series led to spin-offs, including a film adaptation and a second season titled 'Instant Khichdi,' which continued to entertain audiences with its hilarious family-centric humor.

The 'Khichdi' series is a popular Indian television sitcom that originally aired in the early 2000s. Known for its unique and quirky humor, the show revolves around the mishaps and comical situations faced by the dysfunctional Parekh family. Led by the enthusiastic but misguided Praful and the witty Hansa, played by Rajeev Mehta and Supriya Pathak respectively, the series garnered a strong fan base for its lighthearted and satirical take on everyday situations.The issue lies in the second hour wherein I did feel that the writers did get entangled on what they wished to achieve versus maintaining the tone of the drama. As a result, the writing is a little scattered almost unfolding as a sketch comedy with little to no relation between the previous scenes. It seemed like a group of gags put together, some of which also work independently but the incoherence was a little more amplified that something that I would have wished for. Yet, the final act again gets the tone of the drama right thus getting it back on track with some gags that beautifully land.
