The film was recently honored with the Gotham Historical Icon and Creator Tribute at the Gotham Awards and awarded Best Score — Feature Film from the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. The film is also set to be recognized with the Vanguard Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards gala event next January.Directed by Martin Scorsese and written for the screen by Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese, based on David Grann’s bestselling book of the same name, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror. 

“Killers of the Flower Moon” may not be a traditional gangster picture, but it's completely in tune with the stories of corrupt, violent men that Scorsese has explored for a half-century. And yet there’s also a sense of age in Scorsese’s work here, the feeling that he's using this horrifying true story to interrogate how we got to where we are a hundred years later. How did we allow blood to fertilize the soil of this country? Scorsese and Roth took a book that’s essentially about the formation of the F.B.I. by way of the investigation into the Osage murders and shifted the storytelling to a more personal perspective for both Mollie and Ernest. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins and Jillian Dion.

The film’s aim seems to be to use this single relationship as a way in to understand the larger picture; in doing so it arguably sacrifices a sense of how wide-ranging and truly horrible the murders were. But the payoff is worth it: in providing two meaty roles for DiCaprio and co-star Lily Gladstone – as well as yet another essay in human nastiness from Robert De Niro as rancher William King Hale, who was convicted of one of some 60+ suspicious Osage deaths – Killers of the Flower Moon offers amazingly rich character drama, providing both the housing for the cultural reparations that Scorsese (and no doubt the wider Hollywood community) wants to offer the Osage, and the ballast for really heavyweight acting from all three leads.
