"Red" is a 2010 action-thriller movie directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, and Helen Mirren. The film is based on the comic book series of the same name by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner. The plot follows Frank Moses, a retired CIA agent who is forced to reassemble his old team after he becomes a target of assassination.
The movie opens with Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) living a peaceful and monotonous life in his suburban home. He spends his days doing mundane activities like tearing up his pension checks and talking to Sarah Ross (Mary-Louise Parker), a customer service representative at the pension office who he has been calling just to have someone to talk to. Frank's peaceful existence is disrupted when a group of assassins break into his house in the middle of the night, forcing him to fight them off using his training as a former CIA operative.
After surviving the attack, Frank realizes that his life is in danger, and he must get to the bottom of the situation. He heads to Kansas City to meet with his old CIA associate, Joe Matheson (Morgan Freeman), who is now living in a retirement home. Joe helps Frank figure out that the assassins are targeting the former members of their team, and they must get the band back together to find out who is after them.
The team consists of Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich), a paranoid and unpredictable former operative, and Victoria (Helen Mirren), a refined and deadly sniper. Together, they embark on a globe-trotting adventure to find out who is behind the assassination attempts.
Their first stop is New Orleans, where they meet Ivan Simanov (Brian Cox), a former KGB agent who may have information on who is after them. However, before they can get any answers, they are ambushed by a group of assassins led by William Cooper (Karl Urban), a young CIA agent who has been tasked with eliminating them.
The team narrowly escapes and heads to Mobile, Alabama, where they meet with a former associate of theirs, Edward Bailey (Anthony Hopkins), who has been living in hiding for years. Bailey reveals that he developed a weapon of mass destruction called "Nightshade" during his time with the CIA, which has now fallen into the wrong hands. Bailey is then killed by an assassin before he can reveal the identity of the person behind the assassination attempts.
Determined to get to the bottom of the situation, the team travels to Washington D.C. to confront the man behind the plot. They discover that it is the Vice President (Julian McMahon) who is behind the assassination attempts, and he plans to use Nightshade to start a war and boost his chances of becoming President. The team then must race against time to stop the Vice President and prevent him from launching the weapon.
In a thrilling finale, the team infiltrates the Vice President's bunker and engages in a fierce battle with his security forces. Frank manages to get to the control room and disable the weapon just in time, preventing a global catastrophe. In the end, the team is declared heroes and Frank and Sarah begin a romantic relationship.
