A prison warden recruits inmates to commit outrageous crimes that shed light on corruption and injustice — and that lead him to an unexpected reunion.A high-octane action thriller that outlines the emotional journey of a man who is set to rectify the wrongs in society.Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan resumes his much-anticipated comeback with “Jawan” (Hindi for “Soldier”), a high-toned action-adventure about a well-meaning terrorist and his crack team of hostage-taking girls with guns.Khan’s revival began a year ago with a prominent cameo in the otherwise meh mythofantastic superhero pic “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva.” Then in, January, he stormed the box office with the lead role in “Pathaan,” a manic spy thriller and the most recent installment in the Yash Raj cinematic universe. “Jawan” will probably delight Khan’s established fans, and maybe uninitiated viewers, too, if only because he’s comfortably playing the hits, now with somewhat greater conviction and a little more polish.

Shah Rukh Khan makes a comeback to the silver screen after a sabbatical of about half a decade. The patriotic thriller marks his third release in 2023 and puts on the platter suspense, action, and drama.

An emotional journey of a man who is set to rectify the wrongs in the society, in an attempt to get even with his past, driven by a personal vendetta while keeping up to a promise made years ago. A high-octane action thriller where he is up against a dreadful monstrous outlaw who knows no fear and has caused extreme suffering to many. In the journey he will cross paths with a high-minded seasoned lady officer whose emotions might get the better of her as she gets involved in this battle. As his past catches up with him, to overcome the challenges and restore the harmony in their world, he will need all the firepower and intelligence to do so.

It’s difficult to explain the plot of Jawan in one paragraph as writer and director, Atlee, has packaged the film with so many sub-plots that eventually lead to the finale. Jawan is among those rare well written commercial films of Hindi Cinema, where the mass and elevation moments are stitched to perfection in a well written, tight screenplay. The narrative of Jawan keeps you hooked from the word go and makes you wonder what will happen next.

Director Atlee knows how to build on the emotions and make the audience root for the journey of the leading hero. There is so much happening all through the narrative, that despite the runtime of 2 hours and 38 minutes, the audience is hooked from start to finish. The action blocks happen for a purpose and are backed by strong emotions. The writing is such that the filmmaker has beautifully married the plot with a high point, every few minutes.

Atlee presents Shah Rukh Khan like a demi-god and SRK aces the mass avatar to perfection. The character evolution and elevation of Shah Rukh Khan is something that every hero of Indian Cinema would dream for and that’s the biggest WIN for Atlee. Right from the introduction scene, to the hijack episode, the pre-interval block, the post interval flash back, the robbery episode; in the second half and prolonged climax – Jawan is loaded with whistle-worthy moments. While the story and emotions engage you into the world in the first half, the second half has two of the best mass moments of the film, one of which is the robbery sequence, which makes up for some flaws in the latter half.

Jawan tells the story of an Indian who suffered the worst torture at the hands of a gang that cruelly tormented numerous helpless commoners while being unable to distinguish even between a small child. After escaping from the gang, he decided not to abandon anyone to harm society. The rest of the movie's story revolves around how he tracks down the main enemy and executes his plan to eliminate him.
