After gaining admission into an elite school on scholarship, an orphan genius Niyati (Alizeh Agnihotri) gets entangled in a cheating racket when some of her rich friends lure her into helping them cheat in exams through elaborate methods.Niyati, an orphan prodigy, living under the care of her warden in a local orphanage in Delhi, becomes the national level topper in the 10th board exams and secures admission in an elite school on scholarship. There she is lured by her rich friends to help them cheat in exams by developing elaborate methods and gets pulled into a cheating racket with increasingly higher risks and even higher rewards. But she may lose much more than she gains.

In Farrey, director Soumendra Padhi documents a new reality of our times when academic proficiency is not directly proportional to integrity. With the government scratching its feet from the education sector, schools have begun to look like five-star hotels where bright students with modest means easily fall prey to a new game of haves and have-nots. Those who have academic brilliance don’t have the money and those who have big bucks to keep such private enterprises running don’t have the brains to pass the competitive tests. In this ground fertile for corruption, there is ample scope for a morbid give and take.Alizeh Agnihotri, Juhi Babbar and Prasanna Bisht starrer Farrey Budget & Day 7 Box Office Collection Worldwide on Friday is of to a low start at the box office. Alizeh Agnihotri is Salman Khan’s niece but needed to be promoted lot more in current time.

Adapted from a popular Thai film, Bad Genius, and because that film is ‘desi’ at heart with the message it tries to give, Farrey, too, keeps a majority of things similar. Though it does a critical commentary on the education system, it misses a few important things that made the original one a great experience to watch. The emotional core of Bad Genius is extremely strong because of the lead Lynn’s father being a low-earning teacher and how the school collects extra fees from him despite the scholarship. This lays the perfect base for her to have a motive and work on it till the end.Here, modifying the character that worked best for the original version works against the film’s otherwise set flow. The father turns into a guardian running a care home, and the solid motive of a daughter turning fraudulent for money is restricted to the lead being an underprivileged Orphan who’s just nice to the others. Lynn, being an intelligent student, is portrayed through multiple scenes; how she calculates the amount she’ll be bribed in seconds shows her genius. Farrey’s Niyati is smart just because the story establishes her all-India #1 in the tenth standard; why not prove it with examples for a better connection?

A school drama with fresh faces is mostly about love and romance, peer pressure, or the clash between the haves and the have-nots. Or is it? Not for director Soumendra Padhi, who delivers an extremely refreshing and thrilling movie. The set-up isn’t novel — two gifted board toppers from a humble background, Niyati (Alizeh Agnihotri) and Akash (Sahil Mehta), attending an elite school in Delhi on a scholarship programme. But what ensues during their stint is nothing like one has seen on screen before.After gaining admission into an elite school on scholarship, an orphan genius becomes entangled in a cheating racket when some of her rich friends lure her into helping them.When passing farrey (chits to cheat in exams) is impossible, Niyati improvises in the most genius ways to help a bunch of her ridiculously rich and spoilt classmates. Leading them is her bench partner, Chhavi (Prasanna Bisht), and her friend, Prateek (Zeyn Shaw). What begins as innocuously saving Chhavi from their teacher’s ire leads Niyati down the rabbit hole of cheating in exams in exchange for money. Each time, the plan is cleverer than the previous one. The film’s main plot is a final international exam where all the students go to different examination centres. Niyati’s ingenious plan, which Akash gets pulled into, and whether it will pan out forms the rest of the story.

FARREY is the story of a group of students trying to cheat the system. Niyati (Alizeh) is an orphan who is raised by a kind-hearted warden (Ronit Roy) at his orphanage, Ishrat Kada, in Delhi. Niyati is very intelligent, and she emerges as a topper in her exams. She even gets admission to the prestigious Winston International School. The principal, Vedita Mathew (Shilpa Shukla), agrees to bear her transport and other costs, knowing her financial condition. Niyati joins the school along with Akash (Sahil Mehta), who also comes from an impoverished background and like her, is very intelligent. Niyati becomes friends with her rich classmates, Chavi (Prasanna Bisht), Prateek (Zeyn Shaw), Sahil (Arshvir Wahi) and Rishabh (Paras Nagpal). Chavi reveals to her that her father (Arbaaz Khan) has asked her to get good marks so that she gets admission to Stanford. However, Chavi is a weak student. For the mid-term exams, Niyati helps Chavi by giving her the answers written on an eraser. Chavi asks Niyati to help her again, for the next set of papers, and this time she’s ready to pay a huge amount. Niyati, at first, refuses due to the risk. Meanwhile, Vedita informs Niyati that the latter has a chance to bag a scholarship at Oxford. Niyati also learns that the warden, who is like her father, is struggling to run the orphanage. Hence, she agrees to help Chavi and her friends and even devises a smart way to cheat. All is going well until Niyati gets caught. What happens next forms the rest of the film.
